Pai Thai, Dubai
Pai Thai has certainly earned a reputation for being one of the best Thai restaurants in Dubai.
Arriving by abra, only to dine on its breathtaking terrace perched above the waterways of Madinat Jumeirah, is a journey unto its own. It’s a wonder I never got the chance to experience their culinary charm until now.
Over the weekend, R and I met a couple of friends at Pai Thai for their ‘Feast of Xahar’ lunch. On arrival, we were offered lemongrass-scented hand towels – a refreshing touch which instantly transported me to the relaxing beaches of Thailand.
Lush Thai ambience aside, lunch was a bit of a disappointment. That usual burst of flavours synonymous with Thai food was absent in most of the dishes; even the classics like Pad Thai or the green or red curries were too sweet and lacking in spice. Luckily for me, their drinks were spot on – creative and delicious concoctions infused with the exotic fruits and spices of South-East Asia, like lemongrass and lychee.
Overall, their drinks impressed me more than their food. I’ll be back for a drink or two on their gorgeous terrace, but if I were itching for some authentic Thai cuisine, I might have to take that craving somewhere else.
